FAQ: We Can Be Heroes - A Hard-Hitting Superhero TTRPG
For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Kickstarter!

Do I need to purchase anything else to play?

The player’s rulebook, game master’s guide, and starter adventure are all included in the book. If you are using a VTT, the book should be all you need! Just create your combat maps using a hex grid and import any custom tokens.

If you’re playing in person, you’ll of course need a standard RPG seven dice set, and minis for your PCs/NPCs. We currently don’t offer any WCBH-specific minis, but have found that Hero Forge is an excellent place to create custom minis for our games. You’ll also need combat maps. For our playtests, we’ve purchased the rights to some digital maps through DriveThru RPG or directly from the creators’ websites. The large hex overlay can be added to the digital maps in Roll20, and then printed. Additionally, it is recommended to use a GM screen. We hope to offer a custom We Can Be Heroes screen in the near future with a quick reference guide for rules.

What virtual tabletop (VTT) resources are available?

We currently have a Roll20 guide available on our website. This walks you through setting up and sizing our hex grid overlay for large zone combat.

Unfortunately, we don’t offer any VTT modules or system integration at this time. We hope to offer VTT integrations in the future, and this will be a high priority for our team once the Kickstarter has been fulfilled. Our primary focus will likely be on Roll20 and Foundry, since these two are the most requested.

What rule set or game system does WCBH use?

We Can Be Heroes is an entirely new system that was designed specifically with the superhero genre in mind. We believe it captures the fast-paced, hard-hitting nature of superhero combat. This is a d20-based system and will feel familiar to any seasoned TTRPG player.

When will I get my rewards?

The book is set to ship out in November 2024. We will have the digital copy completed and sent out by September 2024. Other virtual rewards will go out as completed, and will be fulfilled by November 2024 as well.

What experience level is ideal for We Can Be Heroes?

We encourage all experience and skill levels to play We Can Be Heroes. In playtests and demos, players that have never played a tabletop RPG before picked it up easily. Veterans of the genre caught on quickly and were able to identify tactical advantages within the system.

What game resources are available?

Check out our “Resources” page at www.budstuffgames.com/resources

Here you will find:

Demo Materials - We provide the demo materials we use at conventions. These include pre-built heroes and the quick reference guide for combat mechanics and Action Points.

Combat Tracker - A handy combat tracker to keep track of initiative, damage, and conditions. This is in a nice Google Sheet that calculates damage from your total HP or AR.

Roll20 Guide - this will help you build a large zone combat grid and set it to the correct parameters for our zone combat mechanics.

Hero Sheet - Use this multi-tab Google Sheet to build your hero from the ground up and easily reference abilities, inventory, and Talents. This is not the final version of the Hero Sheet and will be updated as the game continues development.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
